As I exchanged my cards with others at BlogHer, I heard a lot of comments about how cool my card was…then they paused at my name. You see, most people are thrown by the ‘R” at the end of my first name. I had to pull this scrapbook page out of the archives and share how I my name evolved into what it is today.

My own given name is Pamelia, and I’ve only ever met one other person with it. When I lived in Boston the guy at the census bureau called back to make sure they had it right, ’cause they’d never heard it before.
I think my mother made it up. She said she read it somewhere, but I have no idea where that could have been. I’ve never run across it in the literature I’ve read!
I never used this name - whenever I tried it was mistaken for Pamela, and “Pam” has never worked for me. My middle name was Sue, so I was Susie growing up, but I thought that was a name for babies so when I was about 15 I changed it to Amy, which fits in a bizarre “hammer the round peg into the square hole” kind of way.
