Be Open. Simply Be. And See.
This is one of the first Labor Days where I was not laboring either at work or over a hot bbq grill. I did all of my cooking yesterday. I have not always enjoyed long weekends because they go by entirely too fast and I spend them trying to do everything I am not able to do when I am at work for 8 hours. Then, I am so dog tired by the last day of the long weekend, I need another weekend to rest up. It is like a never ending cycle, but one I am planning to get off of real soon.
I was itching yesterday to shoot something. I went outside with my camera, equipped with my 35mm, f/2.0 lens and started shooting…from the ankle. Seriously. I needed to see things from a different perspective. Shooting like this taught me a few things.
One, you have to trust that what you can not see usually ends up being alright. I do not have live view with this particular camera, so I had no idea what the final image was going to look like. I was pleasantly surprised and I liked that. Second, when you get an urge, go with it…it is your Higher Self speaking. The urge to shoot yesterday hit me like a ton of bricks. I did not push the thought away, I followed my intuition and did it. I have looked at this dying plant for weeks and did not see how beautiful it was until I shot it from my ankle.

Be Open. Simply Be. And See.
That is what my impromptu photo shoot taught me. I am listening more, being open to any and every opportunity. Being in the moment and seeing what is going on right here, right now. It leaves me with an amazing sense of peace. One I have struggled with this year, but it is all coming back full circle and I am understanding the blessings in the valley.
